The ICC World Test Championship will go all guns blazing on June 18 in Southampton. India and New Zealand will lock horns with each other in a marquee battle.
Meanwhile, Wisden picked the World Test Championship XI. Surprisingly, Indian all-format captain, Virat Kohli didn’t make the cut while Kane Williamson has been picked as a captain.
Rohit Sharma and Dimuth Karunaratne have been picked as openers. The Indian opener scored 1030 runs at an average of 64.57 including 4 centuries and 2 fifties.
Karunaratne scored 999 runs including 4 centuries and 4 fifties. On the other hand, Marnus Labuschagne comes in at No.3. He scored 1675 runs at an average of 72.8 including 5 centuries and 9 fifties.
Steve Smith has been slotted at No.4. Australia’s current best batsman scored 4 centuries and 7 fifties to his name. Kane Williamson has been chosen the leader of the ICC WTC XI.
Ben Stokes had a pretty good World Test Championship. He scored 1334 runs and smashed 4 centuries. Apart from that, he took 34 wickets to his name.
Rishabh Pant, Ravi Ashwin make the cut
Rishabh Pant affected 5 stumpings and took 35 catches. He scored 662 runs at 41.37 and scored 1 century. After that, New Zealand’s Kyle Jamieson follows next on the list.
The lanky pacer picked up 36 wickets including 4 four-wicket hauls. After that, veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is the lone spinner where he took 67 wickets in 13 games.
On the other hand, pace battery comprises world-class bowlers namely Pat Cummins and Stuart Broad. Cummins took 70 wickets in 14 games whereas Broad took 69 wickets in 17 games.
