West Ham vs Chelsea: At the start of the season no one would have expected West Ham vs Chelsea to be a game for a place in the top four. The Hammers have performed beyond anybody’s expectations this season in the Premier League. While Chelsea like last year are still in the race to qualify for the Champions League.
Even before the London Stadium, Upton Park was a difficult place for the Blues. In the previous five home games against Chelsea, the Hammers have won thrice, drawn once and lost once. However, it was back in 2003 when West Ham won back to back home games against the Blues.
Not only against the Blues but West Ham are also unbeaten in thier last five London derbies. If Thomas Tuchel’s side wins this one it will be thier eighth double over the Hammers. Only against Sunderland and Tottenham have done the double eighth times. However, it will be difficult for them to win at home against David Moyse’s side.
This season only Manchester City have won more points more at home (38) than West Ham with 31 points. It was way back in the 2001-02 season when the Hammers managed to get victories in double figures in the Premier League.
Analysis: West Ham vs Chelsea
Currently, both the Hammers, as well as the Blues, are level on points with 55 points from 32 games. Chelsea have a superior goal difference of 19 compared to West Ham’s 11. They also defeated David Moyse’s side at Stamford Bridge by 3-0.
It will be a tough game for both teams. But West Ham should be more fresh compared to Chelsea. The Blues played thier last game against Brighton mid-week, before that they were in the FA Cup semi-final on the weekend. This extra rest could give them an edge in this London derby.
Thomas Tuchel’s side will be making a mistake if they decide to take the game to the home side. This is because they are more fatigued and West Ham had more rest. Since the arrival of Tuchel, Chelsea’s defensive capabilities have improved tremendously. However, at times they have lacked the cutting edge in attack.
If the Blues decided to dominate possession, they will struggle to open up West Ham. On the other hand, the Hammers will find it easy to score when on counter-attacks. The same goes for Chelsea as well, they will find it easier to score through counter-attacks.
When and Where

Head to Head Stats
The Hammers and the Blues have faced each other 115 times. Out of which West Ham have won 42 times, Chelsea have won 51 times and the rest of 22 games have ended in a stalemate.
West Ham- Jesse Lingard
Before the European Super League drama, Lingard was the name on everyone’s lips. He has been a player reborn since joining the Hammers in January. The Englishman has more goals than Timo Werner, Kia Havertz and Hakim Ziyech combined this season in the Premier League. He will be crucial for them in this game.
Chelsea- N’Golo Kante
At one point in time, people would not stop praising the Frenchman. However in recent years that hasn’t been the case. Perhaps Kante has become more underrated for what he does. He is Chelsea’s best player and his dynamism and energy will be the key to stop West Ham and launch counter-attacks.
The 12th Man Prediction: West Ham 0: 1 Chelsea
Though, West Ham will be more rested they will be without some key players. Chelsea might just have that extra quality to win this one by a margin of one goal.
