For the second year in a row, Chelsea have lost the FA Cup final at Wembley, last season against Arsenal, and this time against Leicester City. Both teams started with the same formations that are a 3-4-3.
While Ziyech and Mount were in behind Werner, Ayoze Perez was in behind Vardy and Iheanacho. Initially, both teams had a few chances but both Kepa and Schmeichel were hardly tested. Chelsea dominated the first half with Werner coming in promising positions.
In the second half, the Foxes looked calmer and composed on the ball. At the start of the second half, they were clearly the better team and that is the team they got their goal. Reece James lost concentration and casually tried to flick a pass, it was very well intercepted by Ayoze Perez through his knee.
Luke Thomas picked up the pieces and passed the ball to Youri Tielemans. The Belgian found himself in plenty of space as due to James’ misplaced pass Jorginho could not close him down. He touched a ball few more times and then thrashed it into the left-hand corner against a helpless Kepa.

What happened in the game: Chelsea vs Leicester City
The Blues tried to open up the Foxes but none of their forwards were able to create a promising situation. In the second half, Leicester City tried to be more expansive and it looked like they will be the team to score the first goal, which came in the 63rd minute. After that, they forced Chelsea wide but Azpilicuetta and Alonso could not swing in good crosses.
Ben Chilwell and Hudson-Odoi made some impact after coming on. Chiwell even managed to force Wes Morgan to score an own goal. However, it was later on ruled out for offside. Apart from that Mason Mount tested Schmeichel with a shot inside the box which was saved by the Dane.
The German was disappointed with his team’s performance. According to him Chelsea were unlucky and praised his side for not allowing Brendon Rodger’s side to counterattack in the game.
He said “We are disappointed and not angry with our performance from the boys. I think the performance is enough to win it. I think today we were unlucky and we’ve never hidden that we need to have that to win at this level. You need momentum, decision making, little details, the referee. I think we defended well, counter-pressed well didn’t allow counter-attacks by one of the best counter-attacking sides in Europe.“
The former Liverpool manager revealed that he was not aware that Leicester City have never won the FA Cup. He is very proud of his team, staff, owners, and fans. The Scot also said that the so-called big teams are always expected to win but his team has shown that they can also compete with big teams.
He said “It’s an amazing feeling, I wasn’t aware before I came to Leicester that they’d never won the FA Cup, they’d lost in four finals previous so to be able to give that to the owners and the fans, so special. So proud, the board players staff, supporters, an amazing day for the city, so proud for everyone. The success of this team and club is getting to positions like this and competing, the so-called bigger clubs are expected to win but our success is competing and if we can perform like today we can go and win, what a day for everyone involved with Leicester.“
12th Man Opinion :
The Chelsea fans are absolutely furious, their team hasn’t been able to score a goal for 180 minutes now. They are also angry with Thomas Tuchel and his decisions like starting Alonso over Chilwell, playing Werner till the 80th minute, bringing Giroud so late, etc.
While Leicester City fans must be thrilled with the win. Brendon Rodgers has done a remarkable job at the club and he has shown that the success of the Foxes under him was not just a fluke but it based on hard work and determination.
