The 2018 edition of the Asia Cup is already underway at the United Arab Emirates after the tournament had to be shifted from India owing to the political rift between the PCB and the BCCI. India and Pakistan will lock horns in the most anticipated clash of the group stages of the tournament on September 19. Team India hosted their first practice session on Friday in Dubai ahead of their opening match against Asia Cup Qualifiers Winner Hong Kong. Pakistan begin their campaign against the same opposition in the second clash of the group stage.
Former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Mailk was spotted walking up to the world cup winning former Indian skipper at the end of the training session. The senior most members of the team were caught on camera shaking hands and greeting each other as old friends. Rohit Sharma, who will be leading the Indian cricket team, in absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli was spotted greeting the veteran Pakistan all-rounder as the latter walked past him to shake hands with MS Dhoni, who was sitting on a chair, relaxing for the moment.
Malik had earlier asked for more matches to be played between the two cricketing nations, which would not only be beneficial to both the teams’ but also serve as an absolute delight to cricket fans all around the globe. He had also mentioned that the players from the respective teams might be passionate and competitive, but they were good friends and well-wishers off the field.
“It is in the benefit of all if both India and Pakistan play a maximum number of matches against each other as it brings entertainment not only for the people of the two countries but also for the rest of the world. It also brings the people of India and Pakistan closer to each other,” Malik was quoted saying. “The cricketers of India and Pakistan are professionals and they want to give their best on the field against each other. And off the field, they like to behave like friends and we take meals together,” the 36 year old had gone on to say.
