Pakistan captain Babar Azam recently scripted history when he became the quickest to 2,000 runs in T20Is. He added a feather to his illustrious cap by achieving the feat in 52 innings.
Babar Azam achieved the record during the third and final T20I against Zimbabwe. Pakistan won the series decider and eventually won the T20I series by 2-1.
Following the T20I series, both teams are playing a two-match Test series. Both Tests are scheduled at Harare Sports Club in Harare. Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor won the toss and opted to bat first.
Nonetheless, they couldn’t shine in the home conditions as they were bowled out for a mediocre total in the first innings. Zimbabwe’s first half of batting line-up looked clueless as they didn’t contribute much.
Roy Kaia top-scored with 48 off 94 balls with the help of 7 boundaries. Apart from him, Tiripano scored an unbeaten 28. With the help of these knocks, Zimbabwe managed to score 176.
On the other hand, Hasan Ali and Shaheen Afridi ripped through the defence of Zimbabwe’s batting line-up. Hasan Ali picked up 4 wickets while Shaheen Afridi also ended up bagging 4 wickets.
Babar Azam departs for a golden duck
Babar Azam has played 32 Tests (58 innings) so far where he scored 2167 runs at an exceptional batting average of 43.34. The right-handed batsman scored 5 centuries and 16 half-centuries to his name. He registered his best score of 143 against Bangladesh. During the first Test against Zimbabwe, Babar Azam got out for a golden duck for the first time in his Test career.
Abid Ali and Imran Bhatt added a 115-run stand for the first wicket. Abid Ali departed for 60. Azhar Ali also made his way back to the dressing room after scoring 36. Meanwhile, Babar Azam stepped out to bat at No.4. Facing Donald Tripano in his first ball, he hit it straight to the fielder between silly mid-on and mid-on.
