Virat Kohli reveals the reason for the moment why he donned the wicketkeeping gloves in an ODI against Bangladesh.
The current Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been one of the best cricketers India has ever produced. Kohli has been a match-winner for Team India over the past few years and is currently the best batsman in world cricket across all formats.
He has relished all the responsibilities bestowed upon him. Virat Kohli took over the captaincy baton from MS Dhoni a few years ago and has led the team right from the front. Virat enjoys a very good relationship with MS Dhoni. The mutual respect between the two stalwarts has immensely benefitted Team India.
Kohli has been a world-class batsman and an athletic fielder. He has also chipped in with his part-time bowling whenever required. He has nailed every responsibility given to him.
Kohli is passionate about the filed and always gives his 100 percent to take his team past the victory line. To be the captain of a team like India is itself a big challenge and pressure and Kohli has raised to the challenge.
Kohli talked with Mayank Agarwal about the moment
It will surprise many people that Virat Kohli had to shoulder wicketkeeping duties in an ODI against Bangladesh in 2015. In the 44th over of the Bangladesh innings, MS Dhoni had to go the washroom and hence handed over the wicketkeeping duties to his deputy Virat Kohli. Dhoni came back to the field in the 45th over and Kohli shifted to his usual fielding position.
During a recent chat session with his teammate Mayank Agarwal in his show on his talk show, ‘Open Nets with Mayank’ uploaded on the official BCCI website, Kohli reminiscences the moment. During a phase in the interview, Mayank was displaying some pictures where Kohli was donning the wicketkeeping gloves. He asked Virat Kohli to talk about the moment.
Mayank displayed the picture and asked Kohli, “how did this occur?” Kohli responded by saying, “Kabhi Mahi bhai se puchiyo how did this occur. He mentioned ‘yaar do teen over simply hold wickets’. I used to be keeping wickets and likewise try to adjust the sector,” Kohli revealed.
The Real Reason?
Kohli then applauded MS Dhoni and said, “Then I understood he (MS) has loads on his plate when he’s on the sector. So he has to deal with each ball and likewise make modifications in the sector.”
Virat even talked about the fear of wicketkeeping and said, “The one problem was Umesh was bowling and he was bowling gas. I thought naak pe lag jaegy ball and I wanted to wear a helmet but then thought bohot beizati ho jaegy.”
During the same interview, Kohli even clarified his captaincy mindset. He revealed that he is always looking to win a Test match and a tie is the last option for him. He talked about the positive mindset his team follows.
Virat will be getting back to cricketing action for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 13th edition of the IPL. The cash-rich tournament will finally kick off in the UAE from 19th September.
