The three-time IPL champions kick-started their campaign against Delhi Capitals in their first game in Mumbai. Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bowl first at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
DC bowlers provided a good start to the game by getting rid of the CSK opening pair. Avesh Khan and Chris Woakes dismissed Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Meanwhile, Suresh Raina and Moeen Ali played some shots and mounted pressure on DC.
Raina’s comeback to the cash-rich Indian Premier League was surreal. In fact, he was the pick of the batsmen for CSK as he top-scored with 54 off 36 balls. The southpaw hit 3 fours and 4 sixes to his name at an impressive strike rate of 150.
Sam Curran provided some fireworks in the fag end of the overs. The England all-rounder scored 34 off 15 balls including 4 fours and 2 sixes. Chennai Super Kings managed to score a whopping 188/7 in their allotted quota of 20 overs.
Moeen Ali bowls a booming ball to Dhawan
Chennai Super Kings acquired the services of England all-rounder Moeen Ali in the mini IPL auction in Chennai. The yellow army pulled off a sensational deal as they splashed the cash of INR 7 crore to purchase him.
CSK’s new face Moeen Ali had a pretty decent performance with the bat as he entertained the fans with sixes and fours. Moeen Ali who added a 53-run stand with Raina scored 36 off 24 balls including 4 fours and 2 sixes.
In reply to CSK’s target, Delhi Capitals got off to a cracking start to the game. Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw added 138-run stand for the opening wicket before Shaw departed for 72 off 38 balls. He hit 9 boundaries and 3 sixes.
During their partnership, Moeen Ali grabbed the headlines with a surprising delivery. During the first ball of the 13th over, the England all-rounder stunned Dhawan by bowling a booming delivery. Only Moeen Ali knows whether it was intentional or did it slip out of his hands.
