Video: Curran stuns Jadeja by performing ‘sword celebration’ in a practice game


Sam Curran has established himself as one of the consistent performers in the game. He is a left-handed batsman and a left-arm medium-fast bowler. The 22-year-old plies his trade for England and Surrey.

The International Cricket Council named him one of the top five breakout stars of 2018. Curran was adjudged the man of the series in the home Test series against India. His all-round performances helped his team a lot.

The 22-year-old continued to weave the magic in the Test series against Sri Lanka. His performances helped England win the series in Sri Lankan conditions. Impressed by his all-round show, Kings XI Punjab acquired him for Rs 7.2 crore in IPL 2019.

Although he did not get many opportunities to bat, he bowled really well. The all-rounder accounted for 10 dismissals in 9 games including 4/11, which is his career-best bowling figures in the Indian Premier League.

The Punjab-based franchise released Curran prior to the IPL 2020 auction. The three-time IPL champions expressed their interest in recruiting the young all-rounder for Rs 5.5 crore. He had a decent campaign last time in the UAE.

CSK experimented with Curran as an opener and it did pay off for a couple of games. However, he was at his fluent best with the ball where he picked up 13 wickets in 14 games. CSK retained him for the IPL 2021 season.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings have been involved in practice games ahead of their IPL journey. They played one warm-up game yesterday and Sam Curran hogged the limelight for his celebration.

The English all-rounder walked up to Ravindra Jadeja and emulated the latter’s trademark sword celebration. Curran tried his best but couldn’t emulate the exact action like this teammate Jadeja.

Fans couldn’t stop commenting on the video clip posted by Chennai Super Kings Twitter handle. The yellow army Twitter admin posted the highlights of the full match including the caption on the micro-blogging platform.

“Snippets from our #SuperMatch 2. Watch out for those cracking shots, champion dance and samma sword celebration,” CSK wrote on Twitter. Meanwhile, the video has gone viral on social media portals.

Chennai Super Kings will start their journey against Delhi Capitals today at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. CSK are aware of what happened in the last season. They failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in history.

MS Dhoni’s team finished 7th in the IPL 2020 points table with 6 wins and 8 losses. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals managed to reach the IPL final for the first time but lost to Mumbai Indians.
