According to reports, Barcelona is close to sealing a deal for Bayern Munich left-back David Alaba.
Barcelona is off to a flying start this season. Since Ernesto Valverde took charge of the club, there is no looking back for the Catalans. They are a staggering 15 points clear of their arch-rivals Real Madrid who are languishing in the fourth spot.
Earlier Spanish outlet AS reported that the Catalans have been a long time admirer of the Austrian and are now expected to add him to their squad. One more point to count on him is that he is one of the most versatile players in the world and is capable of playing a number of roles in either defense or midfield.
Barcelona is looking to add more to their defensive options. Even though the defensive options they have at the moment is one to look for but still, there’s always room for improvement. Samuel Umtiti and Gerard Pique have been impressed this season. While new signing Yerry Mina is adapting to the pace of European football.
And now Spanish publication Don Balon is reporting that Barcelona are close to sealing a deal for Bayern Munich left-back David Alaba. According to reports Barcelona is in a pole position to land Alaba and talks over a potential transfer is in an advanced stage.
David Alaba has also admitted that he can imagine of himself taking on a new challenge away from Allianz Arena. Speaking to Austrian newspaper Kurier, David Alaba said: “I am aware that one day I will have to make a decision, and I still feel great. But it is also true that I imagine taking a different path, making the next step or looking for a new challenge. But I leave that decision open. I have goals for this season that I want to achieve, so there’s no room for that right now.”

Don Balon earlier reported that Alaba would cost Barça around £88 Million and the Austrian would be happy to seal a move away from the Bundesliga at the end of this campaign. But with Real Madrid entering the race to sign the player, the prices would surely go high.
The Austrian has been in Bayern’s book since the beginning of his career and has shone at the highest level for Bayern since bursting onto the scene at the age of 18. He became a regular member of Bavarians senior side during the 2011/12 campaign and has never looked back since then.
It won’t come as a surprise to anyone if he joins Barcelona or Real Madrid as he is looking forward to trying a new challenge abroad and there aren’t any names bigger then Barcelona and Real Madrid for now.
What a signing he could be. The Austrian is full of energy and possession. He doesn’t negate his responsibilities at the back, either, as he is aware and positionally smart on the rare occasion the Munich giants have some defending to do. It would be really exciting to see him donning the Blaugrana of Barcelona.
