The current Tottenham Hotspur manager, Jose Mourinho has shown interest in bringing back his old player from his Manchester United days, Marouane Fellaini. The Belgian used to be a regular under Mourinho and was often used as the saviour role in the squad.
Fellaini made a lot of changes in his youth academies before he finally settled with Standard Liege. At the age of 17, he signed his first professional contract with the Belgian club and continued with the youth side. He played for the senior team for 2 years before Everton came calling.
He was pursued by many big clubs, but he decided to join Everton. The deal was around £15 million, which was a then-record fee for the club as well as for a Belgian player. He had a delightful time with The Toffees in the 5-years he stayed there. Fellaini scored his first goal a month after his debut for the club.
David Moyes who used to manage Everton then was awestruck by the adaptability of the player that he even termed him ‘as good as anyone in the league’. He was named Everton’s young player of the year in his debut season.
After Sir Alex Ferguson retired from Manchester United, David Moyes was handed over the responsibility at Old Trafford. And his first signing was none other than Marouane Fellaini. His move cost United £27.5 million. His time with his old boss came to a quick end as Moyes was sacked 6 months after the appointment. He played under Louis Van Gaal for 2 years. The Belgian was appointed more in an attacking role under the Dutch.
Marouane Fellaini to Tottenham Hotspur depends on the future of Jose Mourinho:
Then came Jose Mourinho who had a good bond with the player. Jose was full of praise of the player and was proud of his fighting spirit. However, Fellaini’s time at Old Trafford came to an end after 5-and-a-half years after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed. The Belgian is currently playing at the Chinese club, Shandong Luneng with his contract set to expire in December 2021.
Jose Mourinho’ future at Tottenham Hotspur is under scrutiny. Mourinho started the season brilliantly. They were on top of the table till December with an unexpected League title written with their name on it, if the form was maintained.
However, they did what they are famously known for bottled the big advantage they had and are now struggling. Once on top, they currently sit 7th in the Premier League with 49 points.
Their latest loss against United means they are 5 points away from a European competition spot. Their failure to qualify for the Champions League can also lead to a lot of problems.
Things have even got dicey for Mourinho as his future at the club is also hanging by a thread. The post-Christmas form has made the club’s chairman Daniel Levy concerned. In the Europa League, they were knocked out in the round of 16 after giving away a healthy lead.
However, Mourinho has already started planning for the transfer needs for the coming season despite the uncertainty of his future. Marouane Fellaini is one of the players he wants, who has also shown a similar interest in returning to the Premier League.
It is also reported by Voetbol 24 that his current deal with the Chinese side will be ended early so that he can join his next club. Nonetheless, the 33-year-old midfielder’s arrival depends on Jose’s future at Spurs.
