It’s a time of some chaos for Tottenham Hotspur. The club decided to relieve Jose Mourinho of his services as the manager of the club. There was some agitation about Mourinho’s managing style in the Tottenham camp.
However, things looked to have smoothened out which is why the move came as a surprise to many. With the big final coming up against City it was a pretty ballsy move from the English outfit. They did get a good 2-1 win over the Saints which will give them some momentum.
Mourinho added some good players to this Spurs’ side in his regime. The likes of Hojbjerg and Reguilon have established their place in the first team. Bergwijn and Bale are also giving good contributions off the bench.
Mourinho did a lot of good for the club and they were even at the top of the league at one point. Injuries to key players like Kane and Son derailed their performances. However, there was one move that was of a surprise to everyone.
Jose decided to let go of Kyle Walker-Peters as he went on to join the Saints. Walker-Peters was one of Tottenham’s academy products and was highly rated by Pochetino too. But last summer the club let go of him in a trade involving Hojbjerg.
Tottenham Hotspur were pretty content with the likes of Matt Doherty and Serge Aurier at right-back. However, neither of them has featured consistently for the Spurs because of both injuries and a bad run of form.
Tottenham made mistake selling Kyle Walkers-Peters:
Walkers-Peters has been in very good form for Southampton this season. Although the Saints aren’t having the best of seasons, Walkers-Peters has been among the positives for them. The right-back has cemented his place in the squad under Ralph Hasenhüttl.
He has 29 appearances for the Saints and has 2 assists to his name. Many are of the opinion that he has outworked both Matt Doherty and Serge Aurier. Jamie Redknapp spoke very positively about the youngster.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Redknapp said that Tottenham would surely be missing his performances. The Liverpool legend even went on to say that he wished Liverpool had Walker-Peters in their squad.
“Walker-Peters going back to his former club,” said Redknapp. “He’ll be showing what a good player he could have been at Spurs. “And I am sure Spurs are thinking ‘with the right-back problems that we have then we wish we had him’.
“So, there have been a few mistakes there.” As of now, Serge Aurier is given preference by Ryan Mason as he featured in the game against Southampton. The Carabao Cup final against City is scheduled on the coming Sunday.
Ryan Mason faces some key decisions in how he’s going to line his team up. Matt Doherty’s injury will probably see him out of the team. One key decision would be whether to give Dele Alli a start or not because Kane might be out of the game against City due to injury.
