Tottenham Hotspur are desperate for some reinforcements in their squad. They had a very poor last season and are looking to bounce back strongly.
The club under the new boss Nuno Espirito Santo and new director of football Fabio Paratici is looking to move ahead into the new season. But with only the players required at the club. The management has reportedly set out a 7 players list who will be sold in the summer.
Toby Alderweireld nearing his Spurs exit
According to a report from The Telegraph, Spurs have agreed a deal with Qatari club Al-Duhail. The deal is worth £13 million for the transfer of Toby Alderweireld. The deal, however, is subject to Toby agreeing on the personal terms and a medical completion. According to a report from Football London, the player was spotted yesterday in Qatar for completion of the deal.
Toby Alderweireld joined Tottenham Hotspur from Atletico Madrid for £11.4 million in 2015. Though he spent a season at Southampton on loan before moving to North London. It was at Southampton that Toby impressed Tottenham Hotspur who were closely looking at his performances for the Saints.however,
Since joining, Toby Alderweireld has made more than 172 appearances for the North London club in the Premier League alone. He was also a part of the Tottenham squad that saw their first Champions League final in 2019. It was under the then Spurs manager, Mauricio Pochettino.
The 32-year-old has been desperate to leave the North London club. He has reiterated that many times in the past. The club has finally decided to offload the player after him entering into his final year on contract.
The Qatari club Al-Duhail was not the only club that was interested in him this summer. The Belgian club Royal Antwerp were also interested in him. But an offer that was placed in the early period of the transfer window was knocked by Tottenham Hotspur.
The move, if materialized, would have seen Toby Alderweireld be back in his hometown. It was in Antwerp where Toby Alderweireld started playing football.
However, Toby Alderweireld featured only in 25 matches for Spurs last season in the Premier League. He was interested in a new project and that quest has landed him in Qatar.
Spurs closing in on Cristian Romero
It is obvious that Spurs would have to bring in a new center back to replace the outgoing Toby Alderweireld. Toby was at the club for 6 years. Even otherwise, the North London club has been wanting to bring a center back to freshen up their back-line.
According to a report from Gazetta, Spurs are in advanced talks with Atalanta over the transfer of Cristian Romero. The Serie A club have set an asking price of £47 million on him. Though Spurs were not looking to meet that price. But both the clubs have had a breakthrough in talks and a deal is inching closer to completion. Cristian Romero is himself keen on moving to North London.
Spurs were moving very slowly till a week ago. But in the past few days they have certainly sped up things regarding both incomings and outgoings. Though the management still has an uphill task of selling many other players. They also have to fill up other positions by new additions.
