Australia joined the list of nations to host the T20 league in March as the tenth edition of the Big Bash League began on December 10. Cricket Australia (BBL) has by far hosted a total of 9 seasons and the franchise cricket turned 10 on Thursday.
Perth Scorchers are the most successful franchise in the BBL with as many as 3 titles. Talking about the last season, Sydney Sixers won their second trophy by defeating Melbourne Stars. Chris Lynn who plays for Brisbane Heat is the leading run-scorer of the league.
The ferocious opening batsman notched up 2,332 runs so far. Ben Laughlin is the leading wicket-taker of the BBL. With subtle variations of line and length, he has taken as many as 11o wickets in the tournament.
Talking about the 10th edition of the BBL, the opening fixture lived up to fans’ expectations. Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers locked horns with each other in the first match. Both the teams gave everything to outsmart each other right from the word go.
In the end, Hobart Hurricanes came out on top much to Sydney Sixers’ annoyance. Hurricanes made a terrific start to their campaign. Melbourne Stars are on top of the points table with 4 points. Hurricanes are second in the table with 3 points.
Sydney Sixers secured just 1 point and are third on the table. Other teams including Perth Scorchers, Adelaide Strikers, and Melbourne Renegades are yet to play a game in this season. It will be quite interesting to see how this edition of the BBL would pan out.
BBL commentary goes viral on social media
During the BBL opener, a hilarious moment was recorded in the commentary panel. It all started with Tim David’s powerful shot which almost looked like it was going for a six. But as the ball traveled, it lacked elevation as it went straight into the hands of Jack Edwards.
As soon as Edwards took the catch, the commentator had to quickly come up with certain words that were literally hilarious. Initially, David unleashed full power against Daniel Christian’s bowling.
As the ball went high in the air, the commentator was in awe of the shot. “David, goes long..goes hard…and he is out 🤣🤣🤣,” the commentator said. The video of which is doing the rounds on social media.
The incident took place during the 4th ball of the last over of Hobart Hurricanes’ batting. Tim David departed after making a sensational 58 off 33 balls. His innings included as many as 8 fours and a six. He maintained a terrific strike-rate of 175.76.

Hobart Hurricanes beat Sydney Sixers
Hobart Hurricanes began their campaign with a 16-run victory over Sydney Sixers. They scored 178/8 in their quota of 20 overs. Apart from Tim’s fifty, Colin Ingram scored 55 off 42 (7 fours, 1 six).
Dwarshuis and Christian picked up 3 wickets each for Sydney Sixers. In reply, Sixers managed to score 162/6 in 20 overs. James Vince top-scored for Sixers with 67 off 41 (8 fours, 2 sixes). James Faulker and Riley Meredith accounted for 2 dismissals apiece.
