Man City probably won’t add any player to their squad, yet Pep Guardiola has decisions to make.
Manchester City has remained determined throughout the January transfer window and they don’t look like making a signing in January. Pep Guardiola clearly stated that they won’t bring in any players, despite City losing their grace.
Premier League leaders have surrendered their League crown to Liverpool. The Reds now sits 16 points clear, with a game in hand to win. City have dropped five more points than they did in the entire last season.
Guardiola insists he won’t add any player in the January transfer window.
“I took that decision, we couldn’t invest in summer, why do you have to invest in December?
“I like my squad, we have problems with injuries, but if we have the chance like it happened with Laporte. There was a clause and we knew the potential of the player because he had played for many years in big stages against incredible strikers.
We were convinced he could handle it immediately, and for a long time we could do it but that is not the position. I think the market does not give us that opportunity and I don’t want to do that.”
Several clubs are busy with the transfer market and with a week in hand left until the transfer window closes officially. There are various decisions Guardiola has to make. These decisions could have huge implications on the rest of the campaign.
1. Whether to stay with Centre back or drop him
Manchester City’s attacking field is not something to concern about. This season, Kevin De Bruyne had even made them better on the forward side. The defensive field is a major concern that lets them down.
Injuries sustained in the last year by Aymeric Laporte, John Stones, and Nicolas Otamendi destabilised the back-line. Thus, forcing Guardiola to play midfielders and teenagers in the defense line.
Laporte made a successful return from injury. But, City remains short on quantity and quality at the back. The defence needs strengthening and Guardiola must decide whether to overhaul in January or summer.
2. Letting the youngster go
Aymeric Laporte’s return to City left Guardiola in dilemma on what to do with the youngster Taylor Harwood-Bellis. He has impressed at the back when given opportunities in the domestic cups this season.
Guardiola admitted the youngster may leave the club on loan. Man City is known for the tradition of sending their young stars out for experiences and the same will happen if someone comes for Harwood
3. A strong decision over Leroy Sane’s future.
The future of Leroy sane was surrounded by uncertainty since last summer.
Bayern Munich expressed the desire to bring Sane back home to Germany last summer. The Bavarians are still interested in him and Guardiola needs to decide on his future.
The winger suffered a serious knee injury that ruled him out for months. The Blues have already got used to being without him. His contract will expire at the end of next season and a new deal doesn’t appear to be on the way.
So the choice remains on Guardiola if he wants to welcome Sane back to the squad with open arms and use him sparingly till his contract expires.
