The Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka is being targeted by the Serie A giants
Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is on the verge of a deal in the summer transfer window. The Italian heavyweights AS Roma are tracking down the player for a long time. The new boss of Giallorossi, Jose Mourinho, flamed up the discussions regarding the same after his comment to the player’s post went viral on social media.
Granit Xhaka posted a farewell post for his Swiss boss Vladimir Petkovic on Wednesday. The Portuguese head coach of AS Roma reacted to the post by commenting with three clapping emojis. The incident went viral among the Gunners fans and the hints of a deal is the latest discussion in the market.
Arsenal and Roma has been linked for a long time discussing the deal of Xhaka. The Swiss captain joined the North London side in 2016. The deal was around £40.5 million from Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach.
Xhaka’s got a contract until the summer of 2023. And, the 28-year-old holds an attractive profile with decent playing time in Gunners camp. He featured 42 games for Arsenal last season. Also, he got one goal and two assists in his credit.
Meanwhile, he had a stunning campaign with the national side in Euro 2020. Switzerland knocked out the World Champions, France in the Round of 16 of the tournament. The victory in the shootouts took them to the Spaniards in the quarter-final. But, they surrendered in the same way, marked the exit from the tournament.
Although, the Xhaka had a good relationship with the 57-year-old Vladimir Petković. The Swiss head coach is up to the new challenges in France after taking the charge of Ligue 1 side, Bordeaux. After 7 years of national duty, he got a three-year contract with the French side.
