Manchester United failed to seal the deal for players they planned to sign this summer and it has been evident in their performances against Brighton and Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United had a tumultuous summer transfer window as things did not go as Mourinho and Manchester United might have planned. It looked like Mourinho and Co would sign good players to bolster their arsenal, and fix the chinks in their armour. However, it did not happen as the club failed to materialize deals for players they thought would join the club this summer.
From their performance in the English Premier League last season, it was evident that the team desperately needed defensive reinforcements this summer. The Old Trafford side were linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld and Leicester City’s Harry Maguire. Despite lengthy negotiations, Manchester United failed to come on terms with these players.
Red Devils defeats against Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur have addressed the need for instilling new players to their defensive roster. As a result, Manchester United have re-ignited their interest Toby and Maguire and are looking to lure both away from their current employers in the January transfer window. It is also reported that Manchester United would be ready to splash 75 million Euros on each player.
Whereas, the same report also suggests that Manchester United’s Ivorian defender Eric Bailey might have to leave the Old Trafford if United indeed comes to terms on signing these two highly talented players. The Ivorian, despite impressing the fans, has gone down the pecking order and it is reported that this would also force the defender to move in search of greener pastures.
Since they finished second last season, it was widely considered that this would be the season they finally clinch the English Premier League. A lot was expected from Jose Mourinho and his men in the summer transfer window, unfortunately, they disappointed the fans. United will have to do everything they could, to lure the services away of the defenders linked, as defensive reinforcement has become the need of Manchester United.
