Arsenal have 6 positions in the squad which needs assessment in terms of retaining and recruiting players
Arsenal has failed on all fronts this season with the Europa League as their last remaining hope. Everything that could have gone wrong has gone wrong for Mikel Arteta. There is a need to assess which positions Arsenal needs to bolster for the next season.
Mikel Arteta might be regretting his decision to sell Emiliano Martinez at the start of the season. Bernd Leno made his way back to the team after recovering from his injury but it hasn’t been the best of seasons for him.
His error against Everton cost Arsenal a very crucial 3 points. As per reports from the Express, Leno previously said that he is open to a new experience hinting towards an Arsenal exit. Although his contract is till 2023, Arsenal should start looking for replacements if they do not intend to tie him down to a new one.
2) Right Back
Hector Bellerin has been Arsenal’s go-to man but the Spaniard might finally decide to leave the Gunners. At just 26 Bellerin is one of the best right-backs in the game and he might try to look for glory elsewhere as Arsenal are in rebuilt mode.
Arteta does have Cedric Soares and Calum Chambers. However, he does not really trust either of them with the first-team spot. Tariq Lamptey and Emerson Royal are two players Arsenal are scouting as Bellerin’s replacement.
3) Right Center Back
David Luiz will part ways from the Gunners at the end of his contract which will expire with the season’s ending. William Saliba and Konstantinos Mavropanos are both returning with impressive performances from their loan spells.
William Saliba was hoping he would get his chance last season but Arteta felt he still needs time to develop. The manager will have to assess whether to go with him or try to get some more reinforcements.
4) Left Back
Kieran Tierney has undoubtedly been one of the best players for Arsenal. The young left-back shows aggressiveness and composure way ahead of his years. Tierney and Saka have been the two major breakthroughs from Arsenal’s academy.
However, the load of Arsenal’s fixtures is affecting Tierney and he has started facing some injury problems. It is important for Arteta to bring in another left-back in support of Tierney so as to allocate game time judiciously and get the best out of both players.
5) Center Midfield
Thomas Partey Arsenal’s star signing has had injury problems but has played well enough to instill the manager’s confidence in him. Xhaka has been pretty solid too so Arteta has 2 first-team players locked on. Dani Ceballos however hasn’t been too impressive this season.
He has faced a lot of injury problems and his impact has been limited for the Gunners. Arteta will have to take a key decision whether to buy Ceballos from Real Madrid or to look for someone like Houssem Aouar for Arsenal’s midfield.
6) Central Attacking Midfield
One thing that was abundantly clear at the very start of the season is that Arsenal needed a creative midfielder. At the midway point, Emile Smith Rowe really stepped with huge performances for the Gunners. They also signed Odegaard on loan in hopes of bolstering the position
However, Odegaard is more of a right-winger and plays best in that role. Arsenal needs to bring in a proper Central Attacking Midfielder who can deliver on a daily basis for the club. It would be nice to have a more experienced option than Smith Rowe for key games.
