AS Roma have had a fruitful start to the new season in Serie A. They have won their opening two matches very comfortably and convincingly. However, Tammy Abraham’s contract situation might cause them some uneasiness.
The Serie A giants began their campaign by hosting Fiorentina. They beat Fiorentina by 3 goals to one. On the very next week, Jose Mourinho’s side played against Salernitana and won the match very convincingly by 4 goals to nil.
However, the club did not have a very good last season. They finished eighth in the Serie A points table with only 62 points in their bag. It was a very disappointing season for the club and they needed change.
The club management made various changes by bringing fresh players in the summer transfer window. More importantly, the club brought Jose Mourinho to manage the team. This was thought to be a very good move by them to bring a serial winner to lead the whole team.
Tammy Abraham contract has brought a problem for AS Roma
AS Roma broke the bank to sign Tammy Abraham from Chelsea for £34 million. He was brought as a direct replacement for striker Edin Dzeko who made a move to Inter Milan. Jose Mourinho knew Abraham from his days at Chelsea. He was the one pushing for Tammy Abraham. He finds Tammy Abraham as an extremely talented and technically sound footballer.
The England international had fallen down the pecking order after the Blues brought various players in the past years. But after the arrival of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan, it was almost confirmed that he would not get any consistent game time at the club.
Eventually, he was keen to join Arsenal after the North London club generated interest in him. But the England international eventually joined AS Roma after the convincing of the former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
However, Tammy Abraham’s current contract with AS Roma has started creating problems for the club management. Tammy will be earning around €4.5 million a year excluding additional bonuses.
Many AS Roma players already know about Tammy Abraham’s wages and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, they are seeking similar hikes. Now, this has become a huge headache for the club management which is already struggling from financial strain.
Despite that, the Italian club is in no mood to pay attention or heed to such demands from multiple players. But the issue is expected to not settle down very easily despite the club thinking so.
Midfield gem Lorenzo Pellegrini wants similar wages as Abraham
The AS Roma skipper Lorenzo Pellegrini also wants similar wages at the club. However, the Italian international is already in talks about renewing his contract. His current salary is €2.5 million a year and he is demanding a steep increase.
However, Serie A will be back in action this week after the two-week long international break. AS Roma will be hosting Sassuolo on Sunday night. They will be looking to make it three wins in a row by beating Sassuolo.
