T20 World Cup 2021: The BCCI and the national selectors announced the Indian squad in the month of September. However, the cricket fans and experts were certainly not happy about the squad.
Various big names are missing from the list like Yuzvendra Chahal, Shikhar Dhawan, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar. These players were the most deserving ones in the T20 World Cup 2021 squad.
Moreover, certain inexperienced faces like Rahul Chahar, Varun Chakravarti, Axar Patel were stuffed in the squad. This created a further uproar against the selection of the squad.
And the second phase of the IPL further enhanced this beliefs of the squad. Rahul Chahar, Ishan Kishan, Surya Kumar Yadav massively underperformed in the IPL. However, Ishan Kishan and Surya Kumar Yadav got their form back in the last game.
But Hardik Pandya, Rahul Chahar remains a major mystery in the Indian squad. Hardik Pandya has hardly bowled and Indian selectors have put forth that Pandya has been taken as an all-rounder and not as a batsman.
Moreover, Rahul Chahar’s form has been the most disappointing of all. The Indian international could not even turn the ball on spin-friendly wickets. Yuzi Chahal was bowling better than Rahul Chahar.
But team India still had the chance to make major changes in the squad since the deadline was October 10. Moreover, there are players like Shikhar Dhawan and Yuzi Chahal who proved their worth by brilliant performances in the IPL recently.
Yuzvendra Chahal took 18 wickets this season and he is the sixth-highest wicket-taker in this IPL season. Whereas Shikhar Dhawan has held the orange cap for the majority part of the season. He scored 551 runs in just 15 matches with an average of 39.35.
T20 World Cup 2021: Shardul Thakur included in the final squad of India
The BCCI and the national selectors have drafted the final squad for team India for the T20 World Cup 2021. They have brought in Shardul Thakur and he will be replacing Axar Patel.
However, Axar Patel will not be dropped from the T20 World Cup 2021 altogether. He will replace Shardul Thakur in the reserves category to pave way for Thakur’s way in the Indian squad.
Shardul Thakur has had a phenomenal year so far, he has been the hero at the Gabba. He has done well in the England series and he is also maintaining his form for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. The youngster has a golden arm and it will help team India in tough situations.
Moreover, India will begin their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign with certain practice matches. However, they will officially begin the tournament with the match against arch-rivals Pakistan on 24 October.
