Sunrisers Hyderabad had a pretty decent season in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League. As a result, they finished third in the points table under David Warner’s captaincy.
The Sunrisers qualified for the IPL 2020 playoffs where they knocked Royal Challengers Bangalore out of the competition. However, Delhi Capitals defeated the Sunrisers in the second qualifier.
Talking about this season, the Sunrisers failed to kick-start their journey on a good note. They lost three games on the trot and are now struggling to win games.
The Sunrisers have languished at the bottom of the IPL 2021 points table. This is their worst ever start in their IPL history. They played 6 games wherein they lost 5 games won just once.
Sunrisers Hyderabad secured only 2 points and they still have a mountain to climb in order to reach the top 4 spots. They have a terrible Net Run Rate of -0.264.
David Warner’s team managed to secure only one win which came against Punjab Kings. Apart from that, their performances have been reduced to rubble. In the latest development, Sunrisers Hyderabad has decided to appoint a new captain for the rest of the season.
David Warner story before removed from Captaincy of SRH
Kane Williamson handed SRH captaincy
Since there has been no further progress under David Warner, Kane Williamson has been handed captaincy. SRH confirmed the news on their social media handles. Kane Williamson already led the team in IPL 2018 and 2019 seasons. He steered the team to the IPL 2018 final but lost to Chennai Super Kings.
In 2019, SRH bowed out at the Eliminator after finishing 4th in the points table. “The decision has not come lightly as the management respects the enormous impact David Warner has had for the franchise over a number of years. As we face the remainder of the season we are sure David will continue to help us strive for success both on and off the field,” the club added in a statement.
