Charlie Nicholas has given his verdict on how Manchester United should go about their transfer business in the coming transfer window.
Despite finishing second on the Premier League table, Manchester United have had a rather underwhelming campaign finishing 21 points behind table-toppers and eventual champions Manchester City. But United also ended the campaign poorly after losing 1-0 to Chelsea in the FA Cup final last weekend.
However, after a disappointing season with the Red Devils, manager Jose Mourinho is looking to make this transfer window count in order to bolster his squad for next seasons title challenge. And pundit Charlie Nicholas has already given his verdict of what he feels will happen in this transfer window.
Nicholas On United’s Transfer Business-
Speaking to Sky Sports, 56-year-old year old former Scottish international was asked out how Manchester United will go about their transfer business to which he replied, “Where do I start? I really do think this is about who Jose is going to sell rather than buy at the moment as it really is such a mismatch of players. “
Nicholas then went on to add the four deals that need to be done quickly, “I think he will be looking at the ones he can get rid of quickly, so Anthony Martial ticks that box if they can find a buyer. Paul Pogba would be another if the right offer came in and Luke Shaw surely has to go. If I were Martial I would want to leave anyway. He must look at Jose and think he doesn’t trust me.
Marcus Rashford might contemplate it but being from the youth set-up I think he’ll stay. Juan Mata might also head back to Spain. There’s probably over £200m of players there, then with that budget, he’s got options, but I honestly don’t know who he goes after as his style is old-fashioned and top-class players would be put off by the way they play.”
I don’t think that Nicholas is speaking from a Manchester United fans’ point of view. Paul Pogba has been incredible for United but people have highlighted his below par performances more often than not, Anthony Martial is just not the kind of player that suits Mourinho and probably he should move on.
