Veteran Indian pacer Ashish Nehra has praised Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer over Jasprit Bumrah based on skill sets. Former RCB bowling coach is happy with his former franchise’s current performance in IPL 2021.
Royal Challengers Bangalore are league leaders with eight points from four games with 100% win accuracy, so far. Virat Kohli-led side is in top form at the moment with good team chemistry this term. Individual performances and form of players like Kohli, De Villiers and Maxwell have added more strength.
However, the season is long and the Bengaluru-based franchise needs to continue their good run of form. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings have also had a good season this time around with some good additions to their side. Arrival of Raina and Moeen Ali have boosted their side’s performance.
Both franchisees are at number one and two positions at the moment. They will go head to head today at the 19th game of IPL 2021 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. It’ll be an exciting contest as both teams have shown good strength this season.
Ashish Nehra’s praise for RCB fast-bowler
Former Indian fast-bowler Nehra was also the former bowling coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore. In a recent interview, he has given praise to his former franchise’s bowler and has rated him over Jasprit Bumrah.
Jasprit Bumrah is the current number one bowler in the cricketing world with his brilliant variation and pace. The bowler has not only performed well in limited overs, but also in test and ODI formats as well. He’ll be a crucial bowler towards the death overs with his natural pace and wicket taking skills.
He became the fastest bowler to pick 50 Test wickets. Bumrah also has a Test hat-trick to his name after Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan. Bumrah has also been a consistent performer with the ball especially at the death for Rohit Sharma in Mumbai Indians set-up.
However, Nehra feels there’s a better player in India with a better skill sets than Bumrah. Nehra has mentioned none other than RCB’s fast-bowler Mohammed Siraj. The pacer has improved his bowling skills in comparison with last IPL season.
‘Skill wise, he is even ahead of Jasprit Bumrah’
In a recent video with Cricbuzz, Nehra said, “When you talk about skill, this has been my thinking in the last three-fours years. When it comes to bowlers, everyone talks about Jasprit Bumrah being right up there. But skill wise, I don’t think Siraj is behind Bumrah, and in all formats.”
Nehra believes Mohammed Siraj can deliver in all three formats with his good pace. “There was talk about a couple of years ago that he used to pick up 5-6 wickets in every match for India A with the red ball, and I’ve always believed that a good red-ball bowler, a Test match bowler has a greater chance of succeeding as a white-ball bowler.”
Nehra added, “There are some bowlers whom you include only for T20s, for white-ball matches. So In think Siraj is a very good all-format bowler. There is no shortage skill, he has all type of variations. I would in fact say that skill wise, he is even ahead of Bumrah, if you talk of variations.”
“He has a different slower one, there is no lack of speed, he can move the new ball. He needs to keep his fitness and sharpen his mind. If he can do these two things well, sky is the limit.”
