Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann has reportedly snubbed a move to Barcelona in order to join Premier League sides Manchester United or Manchester City.
Griezmann has been the subject of interest for a lot of top clubs across the continent after incredible outings with Atletico Madrid. Barcelona has identified the 27-year-old forward as their prime target in the summer transfer window to lure him to the Camp Nou.
The Catalonian giants are preparing to offload Ousmane Dembele after the 20-year-old winger has had a rather underwhelming debut season at Barcelona following a heavy transfer deal earlier in the summer. Barcelona is ready to replace Dembele with Griezmann but the Atleti forward seems to have different plans.
According to news outlet Don Balon, Griezmann is ready to join Manchester United in a stunning move in this transfer window. The Red Devils were eager to bring the Frenchman to Old Trafford last summer but due to Atleti’s transfer ban, Griezmann decided to remain with the Spanish outfit. United splashed a load of the transfer fee on Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku instead.
However, after almost singlehandedly winning the Europa League with Atletico Madrid this season, Griezmann is ready for a new challenge in a different league and Manchester United are in pole position to secure his services. The Madrid attacker is set to leave the Spanish capital but is afraid that his reputation would be destroyed if he moves to a rival club like Barcelona.
Local neighbors Manchester City are also in the hunt to sign Griezmann as Pep Guardiola is aware that he needs to re-enforce his title-winning squad for next campaign to compete in the League.
Griezmann definitely has a lot of love and affection for Atletico Madrid and he showed how upset he was when the Madrid faithful booed him on as a substitute last weekend. But Manchester United will be extremely happy with this because it now gives them an opportunity to sign one of the best players in the world.
