Shocking- London Club Duo To Sign Barcelona Star for World Record Fee

Premier League giants Chelsea and Arsenal are both interested in signing Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen in this summer transfer window for a world record transfer fee.

Arsenal is in dire need of a new goalkeeper to replace the ageing Petr Cech who is now keen on errors. New Gunners boss Unai Emery will want to strengthen his last line of defense before the new season as the 36-year-old has been prone to making the odd mistake at regular intervals. Therefore the North London club has identified a replacement and is looking to snap up Barcelona star Cillessen before the transfer window shuts.

Chelsea could possibly lose Thibaut Courtois for free next summer after the Belgian decided that he will not be extending his stay at Stamford Bridge. Hence, the Blues will likely sell him in this transfer market to generate funds for a new keeper. Like their local London rivals Arsenal, Chelsea too has seen Cillessen as an ideal man to stand in between the sticks for next season.

Inside News-

With interest from the Premier League side’s looming, Barcelona will look to cash in on their second choice keeper. After German shot-stopper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen has established himself as the number one keeper at the Camp Nou, La Blaugrana will seek to gain some transfer funds from the sale of Cillessen, who has played just twice in two La Liga seasons.

According to Spanish news outlet Sport, Cillessen is valued at around £52 million and confirmed that Chelsea and Arsenal have made contact with Barcelona over securing a deal for the Dutchman. The 29-year-old is a handy keeper and Cillessen is looking for more game time giving the English side’s a perfect opportunity to swoop in for him.

League rivals Liverpool are also keeping tabs on Cillessen after the Merseyside club saw a shocking performance from Loris Karius in the Champions League final.

Author’s Take-

I think that Cillessen is a very underrated keeper who is being outshone by Ter Stegen. A move to the Premier League would definitely give the Dutch shot-stopper more opportunities at playing regularly. However, I feel that Cillessen could be an ideal replacement for Courtois at Chelsea.
