The Camp Nou squad are looking for a potential replacement for the right-back position after the departure of Dani Alves.
It seems the Catalans defender Gerard Pique is not amused with the team’s plan to go after the Premier League superstar in the pursuit to get the right back position sorted after the departure of Dani Alves. The right-back position is seemingly an ongoing area of frustration for Barcelona, but Gerard Pique has reportedly had his say on a potential solution.
Since Dani Alves left the club in 2016, Barcelona hasn’t got a permanent solution to the vacant right back position. Nelson Semedo has played there this season, making 31 appearances in all competitions, while Sergi Roberto has continued to show his versatility at times to feature there as well. According to Don Balon, as re-reported by The Express, speculation continues to link Barcelona with a move for a new right-back, Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin but Pique doesn’t seem happy with the move.
This can be due to the fact that the 23-year-old Spanish footballer hasn’t been in the best of touch this season. On the other hand, Nelson Somedo hasn’t filled the boots of Dani Alves and has underperformed. While Sergi Roberto has done well when called for the position, he isn’t a permanent solution to the problem.
Hector Bellerin is young and has a lot of time to improve but it seems Barcelona are looking for someone very established at the place. That’s why Pique is not very much interested to play along with Bellerin. It would be interesting to see how the La Liga Giants solve this problem.
Author’s Take :
Right-back is a very crucial position for any team and Barcelona need to sort out this problem as quickly as possible because when exploited, this can be their weakness as evident in the game against Roma in the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League.
Hector Bellerin is an upcoming talent but he needs time to produce the best out of him. His lack of form is one of the key reasons for Arsenal’s horrific season this year. And if he moves to a club like Barcelona, he might be lost in the star-studded line-up and his performances may suffer.
