Lazio superstar Sergej Milinkovic Savic’s agent Mateja Kezman has reportedly delivered a massive blow to Manchester United regarding the transfer of the Serbian.
Following the arrival of Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant, Manchester United were hopeful of a few more signings in this summer transfer window but have been dealt a major setback regarding Milinkovic Savic. Savic was one of United boss Jose Mourinho’s prime targets this summer and the Portuguese was keen on seeing him partner countryman Nemanja Matic for the following season, but those dreams may have been ended by Sergej’s agent Mateja Kezman.
Does Manchester United Stand A Chance?
According to Corriere Dello Sport, Sergej is in high demand and the elite clubs in Europe have been attracted by his performances. La Liga giants Real Madrid and Lazio’s league rivals Juventus are also preparing bids for the midfield maestro. And this is a major blow for United with the report claiming that the English side is ‘defeated’ and will pull out of the race for Sergej Milinkovic Savic.
Real Madrid is reportedly in pole position to sign the Serb especially after talisman Cristiano Ronaldo signed for Juventus. And Lazio will not be willing to sell their 23-year-old prized asset to their domestic rivals to avoid competition in the Italian league.
Sergej’s agent Mateja Kezman has held talks with Lazio and revealed that United are no longer in the hunt for his client. This means that Lazio may not have liked United’s proposal as they continue to value Sergej at a price of £137 million (€155 million) but other top clubs in the continent can afford that price.
Milinkovic Savic would have been ideal to replace Michael Carrick and also be an upgrade to Marouane Fellaini but this is a bitter pill for United to swallow. The Red Devils will now have to look to do business elsewhere to land a top midfielder.
