AC Milan target Chelsea playmaker as a part of ‘redundant’ additions

Italian giants AC Milan had a stunning season of football in Europe. Finishing off second in the league table and qualifying for UEFA Champions League both termed as the revamping of the past glory of the mighty Rossoneri.

Stefano Pioli has got tough challenges next season and the football scouts of Milan are already on the mission of strengthening the current squad. According to sources, the club is focusing on the ‘redundant’ theme for recruitments. Adding players who are considered as ‘redundant’ in the European powerhouses is the plan.

Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech is one of the latest targets of Milan for the summer transfer window. Although, the player is on a long-term contract with the Blues. Champions of Europe are yet to react to the transfer rumor of Ziyech.

The Moroccan playmaker missed out on important fixtures last season due to injury. That affected the playing time under the super boss Thomas Tuchel. Also, the multiple claims within the squad affected the appearances of Ziyech in important fixtures.

Chelsea start Ziyech target for AC Milan

Ziyech situation with Chelsea:

The transfer of Hakim Ziyech was a celebrated one in West London. He was one of the major transfer projects done by Chelsea under Frank Lampard. The €44 million signing included €4 million of add-ons as per the reports from last February. (BBC Sport)

He featured 39 games in a Chelsea shirt from which he scored 6 goals and 4 assists (Transfermarkt). But, getting into the starting eleven was not that easy for him. Some of the similar arrivals like Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic provided decent competition for him within the squad.

Although, the contract of Ziyech runs till 2025 and Chelsea will try their maximum to bring the best out of the player. They are prioritizing the domestic challenge for next season and Tuchel might be using a different strategy with the options he got in the squad.

Milan’s multiple interests:

According to Sky Italy, AC Milan are tracking multiple options in the attacking department for next season. The Turkish midfielder of Milan, Hakan Calhanoglu is expected to join the rivals Inter Milan next season as per rumours.

That leaves Milan in search of new additions in the attacking department. 28-year-old Brazilian midfielder of Paris Saint-Germain, Rafinha is another major interest of Milan for the summer. His contract with PSG runs till 2023. Finding someone for long-term service isn’t a priority for Milan as per their short-term interests.

Meanwhile, the ‘redundant’ set of first-class players include Roma attacker Cengiz Under, Atletico Madrid winger Thomas Lemar and James Rodriguez of Everton. These stars are out of favor in their home sides and a transfer can offer them relief.

AC Milan are targeting that sort of deal and Hakim Ziyech is the big name on the list. Winning the transfer from Stamford Bridge would not be an easy task in terms of finance. Also, Chelsea are keen to watch the offers of their big stars and they are highly conscious of the market value of their players.

After all, the summer transfer window is live in Europe and the international break serves as the testing ground of clubs for next season. The transfer market is expected to fire up by the end of Euro 2020 and Copa America 2021.
