Arsenal have completely blocked the transfer of their player, Sead Kolasinac to the German side, FC Schalke. The player is currently on loan at the German club and is set to return to his parent club before the start of the next season.
The Bosnian international was born in Germany but decided to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina on the international level. He started his career in his hometown club, before moving to a higher level 8 years later. Sead joined Hoffenheim where he played for a year. He then joined VfB Stuttgart which he also left after a year before settling at FC Schalke 04.
Schalke was the club that took him to the higher level. He joined the club’s youth system and was promoted to the second team just after a year. After impressing in the 7 matches he played there, he was soon promoted to the first team.
His time with the club could have been better. He has been an important player for them, but his injuries prevented him from delivering the best. His worst injury occurred in 2013, where he was out for 6 months after he tore his anterior crucial ligament. In fact, he had to wait 3 years to score his first goal for Schalke.
After having extended his contract in 2013, he decided not to do the same at the end of that deal, ending his 6-year journey with the German side. As he had not renewed his contract, he became a free agent. And Arsenal was more than happy to get him on the free transfer.
In 2017, he joined the Gunners and settled quickly. He had a great start there, scoring on his debut along with frequent goal involvements.
Mikel Arteta’s stance at Arsenal blocking FC Schalke move
Sead Kolasinac was having a fruitful life at Arsenal. He has been a regular player featuring in almost every matches for The Gunners. In 3 seasons he has already crossed the century mark appearances. However, there was a sudden transition in his current year. He hardly made any appearances in the first half of the season.
Kolasinac wanted more minutes on the pitch with Arsenal, and he was allowed to move back to Schalke on loan after his needs could not be granted. His return saw him get his regular playtime, as he has made 13 appearances which include 12 starts.
Although the club is going through a rough phase, Schalke manager Dimitrios Grammozis is interested in making his move permanent.
After finishing a satisfactory 12th position in the Bundesliga last season, there has been a huge dip in their form as well as their position the current season. They are rock-bottom in the league and there is no hope of escaping relegation. After going on an outrageous winless streak of 30-games, it was snapped by their 4th and current manager of the season.
They grabbed only their 2nd win in the league a few days ago and their point tally is currently at 13. The club manager wants the Bosnian who currently wears the captain’s armband, to remain at the club. Schalke’s sporting director Peter Knabel has also held talks with the player and he has confirmed that the club wants to keep the left-back.
However, Arsenal have frozen the option for a permanent move. Kieran Tierney who was Arsenal’s first-choice full-back has sustained a long-term injury and Mikel Arteta is forced to play different players in that position. The coach doesn’t want to keep that position empty because of which the move has been refused.
