Arsenal has struggled this season but there is still hope for the club.
Things certainly haven’t gone as Mikel Arteta would have planned for the Gunners. Arsenal hasn’t been able to have a major impact in the Premier League. The club lies at the 9th position in the league and avenues of Europe through the league are practically closed.
Depending on the weekend results Arsenal could fall into the other half of the table. The only hope for the club is to win the Europa League trophy. They face a tough tie against Spanish opposition Villarreal.
During the course of the season, Mikel Arteta has faced much criticism. However, it is not completely his fault. It has been an injury-prone season for the club as key players have missed out on many games.
Arteta has built a young squad and there sure is a lot of talent in the Arsenal squad. In such cases, there is a need for experienced players leading the team. This was not possible this season due to players missing out.
Although there is still a need to add more talent to this Gunners squad. They need a creator who can perform day in and day out for the club. A new defender is also on Arsenal’s agenda as David Luiz’s time looks to be over.
However, a lot of this will depend on how Arsenal ends the season. European glory is a must in attracting players. Former Arsenal legend Santi Cazorla has faith in Arteta’s abilities and believes he can turn things around.
Santi Cazorla opens up on Arsenal’s season under Arteta
Santi Cazorla is one of the players who featured in an Arsenal team along with Mikel Arteta. Arteta himself has a lot of experience as a player and Santi is positive he can develop well as a manager.
This was his statement as per reports from the Express. Arsenal have a squad that could fight for the top five in England but this year, because of injuries, it has not been functioning in the Premier League,” said the Spaniard.
“I have watched some matches and I really don’t understand this situation. “Maybe pressure affects the players, this is the only explanation for me.
Santi may have hit the bull’s eye with his take on Arsenal’s performances. Arteta had hoped that a mixture of youth and experience would do the trick for the club. But in times of pressure, it is the veterans who lead the way.
Arsenal’s senior players haven’t delivered much this season. They face an important decision regarding a reshuffle in their attacking lines. The club also has a lot of players playing well away on loan.
Mikel Arteta has his work cut out for him as there are so many decisions to be made. Whether to get a permanent deal for Odegaard and Ceballos or not? Should the club offer another contract to Alexander Lacazette?
Mikel Arteta will be hoping he gets some of his answers by the end of the season. However, as of now, his only focus would be on the Semi-Final against Villarreal in the Europa League next week.
