In February, Alaba confirmed that he has made the decision to leave Bayern at the end of this season and try something new. He also emphasized that it wasn’t an easy decision. It required time as the club means a lot to him.
Roman Abramovich has asked to stall the David Alaba pursuit:
Chelsea have been chasing Alaba for months now as Thomas Tuchel wants to improve the squad at the end of the campaign. The club plan to bring a long-term replacement for Thiago Silva because he enters the twilight career of his career.
Even though there is no transfer fee but the Austrian defender won’t come cheap. Alaba has asked for £10 million in wages per year. Due to which as the Bild claim Chelsea are stalling on a deal because Abramovich is unwilling to meet the player’s big salary demands.
Bayern Munich defender has attracted interest with a number of clubs across Europe. Chelsea owner holds a special relationship with Alaba’s agent Pini Zahavi. But despite the relationship, Abramovich is stalling over the deal due to a financial crisis.
Interest from other European clubs
Now that Chelsea has taken their steps back from signing the utility man. It has given a major boost to a number of clubs including the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, and PSG. Though, the player has not clarified his decision over his next club. But he wants to join the Spanish club in future.
Alaba has mentioned his dream move to Real Madrid. To which there were reports that the two of them were in a verbal agreement. According to a report from BILD’s Christian Falk, David Alaba still has not officially signed a contract with a club despite reports of a verbal agreement with Real Madrid.
The defender has not signed a contract with the Los Blancos as the Spanish giants have not offered him enough money due to financial restrictions. Moreover, only PSG has agreed to Alaba’s financial demands and has offered him a concrete offer.
Former Chelsea star Glen Johnson has also urged his former club to get the deal in the line for Alaba. He said if Chelsea would play with the wing-back then Alaba would be the ideal man. The defender is versatile enough to play on the left of back three or on the left wing-back. He wants the top clubs to go on a war for him. For now, it’s Chelsea who needs to fit him in their formation.
Erling Haaland has also appeared on Chelsea’s radar along with David Alaba. Yet signing Norway international is out of the league for Chelsea after Borussia Dortmund have asked for £132 million for their prized asset.
