A century came from Rohit Sharma’s bat in both the innings of the Visakhapatnam Test match being played against South Africa. Rohit Sharma, who was batting as an opener for the first time in Test cricket, scored 176 runs in the first innings and 127 runs in the second innings. Prior to this match, he scored only three centuries in Test cricket in which the first two centuries came in the first two innings.
Like in the first innings, Rohit Sharma was stumped out in the second innings as well. In both innings, he was dismissed by Keshav Maharaj. In the second innings, in an attempt to speed up the run pace, he stepped out of the crease and tried to a hit a six over long but missed the ball altogether. De Kock committed no mistakes behind the stumps and too the bells off in a flash and Rohirt was dismissed.
One over before being dismissed, Rohit hit three sixes on three consecutive deliveries off Dane Pedt. Off-spinner Pedt’s ball was turning towards him and hence he hit them with the spin but Maharaj’s ball turned against him and he was out.
Rohit Sharma, who was bowled out for 127 runs, was congratulated by the South African players. Showing a perfect example of the spirit of the game, they patted Rohit and praised his innings.
Rohit was out in front but South African captain Faf du Plessis came back from behind and congratulated him. The South African players congratulated Rohit and Mayank Agarwal after their dismissals in the first innings as well.
Rohit Sharma made many big records in this match. He has become the first batsman in Test history to score a century in both innings of the first match while batting as an opener. With this, he has also become the highest run scorer in the first match while batting as an opeer.
With this, he has also become the batsman to hit most sixes in a match. He has hit 13 sixes in this match while Wasim Akram held e record ealie with 12 sixes in a mach.
