Antonio Conte is expected to leave Chelsea after their disastrous 2017-18 campaign. But amidst all the rumours, why has the Italian not left the club yet?
The fans are waiting for it to happen. The players have accepted it and are waiting for it to happen. Even the man himself, Antonio Conte is waiting for the release from his Chelsea duties. But the club has decided to stick with the manager for the rest of the season, for financial reasons.
Chelsea’s financial move:
The Italian tactician is expected to take home £10m if he leaves the Blues. The huge amount in his contract has forced Chelsea to stick with the manager for the remainder of the season.
Arsene Wenger’s decision to leave the Gunners at the end of the season has changed quite a few things in the market. With the uncertainty around Emery at PSG and Max Allegri at Juventus, a number of high profile spots have opened up for the managers. And Conte’s representatives are in search of a perfect job for the Italian.
Chelsea, on the other hand, will be hoping for Conte to find a job shortly after the end of the season. The club will be able to save £10m if Antonio Conte does receive offers in the coming weeks.
Conte has been linked with the Juventus and PSG job. But The Italian could also find himself swapping jobs with Maurizio Sarri, current Napoli boss.
Conte to Italy?
Despite the interest from a number of big clubs, Conte is favourite to take charge of the Italian National side after his departure from the Stamford Bridge. The Azzurri failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1958. And the man who led the team to Euro quarter-finals in 2016, Conte, is expected to be back in their dugout.
Antonio Conte has also done some damage control at Chelsea as they reached the final of the FA Cup. But the Blues remain 5 points behind the 4th placed Spurs in the race for the Champions League.
The Chelsea board is obviously sticking to Antonio Conte due to the financial reasons. But the manager has proved his class by reaching the FA Cup final in the meantime. However, do not expect Chelsea and Conte to be together next season, even if the Blues win the FA Cup.
