Former England midfielder-turned-pundit, Redknapp believes Bale is the ‘perfect fit’ for Chelsea.
Bale’s career at Real Madrid is in doubt after a difficult season which has seen him lose his place in the team. It has also been one of his lowest scoring seasons with just 11 La Liga goals so far and as a result, a return to English football has been strongly mooted. Man Utd attempted to sign Bale before he joined Real and are once again being linked with him.
‘‘Every summer there seems to be talk of a big-money return to England for the Welshman and Bale would be a perfect fit for Chelsea,’’ Redknapp wrote in his Daily Mail column.
‘‘He is a big name and someone who already knows the Premier League. Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United would no doubt be in the mix too but if Chelsea can play a clever game with Real, then they can make it work in their favour.’’
That ‘clever game’ should involve an opportunistic swap involving their best player, claims Redknapp.
‘‘Take Hazard out of that team and there is no way they would be able to match Manchester City, Manchester United or even Tottenham next season. Chelsea have to play this one carefully.’’
‘‘We hear a lot about how Real Madrid are sniffing around Hazard and that is only natural for a player who, in my opinion, has been one of the Premier League’s all-time greats. Zinedine Zidane has openly admitted how highly he rates him too.’’
‘‘Should Hazard leave for Real this summer, they would need a new A-lister, and negotiating a swap for Gareth Bale would be a great solution.’’
But Reports also have emerged that Bale’s representative Jonathan Barnett has dismissed any suggestion of the 28-year-old leaving.
“Gareth is a Real Madrid player and loves Real Madrid and Real Madrid love Gareth,” Barnett told ESPN FC.
“All this talk about leaving is written by reporters who have no idea what is going on and who need to write something and don’t care if it is true or not.”
The rumours are dismissed by Bale’s representative saying Bale has no intention of moving from Bernabeu. However, if Hazard leaves Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will have to look for a suitable replacement for the midfielder.
