A 2018 Champions League final reunion is on the horizon now. Real Madrid are set to welcome Liverpool at the Santiago Bernabeu. This game is perhaps the most talked-about quarter-final tie of the Champions League this season.
Both teams won their respective league titles last year. However, it has been nothing like their last season. Real Madrid are in a title race with Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. However, their rivals for the time being are favorites to lift the trophy than the Los Blancos.
On the other hand, Liverpool are not even close to challenging for the title. The Reds are struggling to even finish in the top four. Manchester City are clearly running away with the title this time.
Both Real Madrid and Liverpool have ravaged by injuries this season. It is also a reason as to why both haven’t performed very well this season. However, a place in the Champions League semi-final can bring some solace to the season. Both of them have good experience in the competition and it will give them a good chance to win it as well.
Analysis: Real Madrid vs Liverpool (1st Leg)
Since the first leg of the game is being played at Bernabeu, Real Madrid can be expected to bring the game to Liverpool. But if we are to go by recent trends things don’t look good for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
In their previous three games against Real Madrid, Liverpool has lost all three of them. Also in their previous nine knockout games in the Champions League, Real Madrid has won eight of them. There is only one stat that goes in Liverpool’s favor ahead of the game.
In Los Blancos history their biggest defeat on aggregate came against Liverpool in 2008. The Reds thrashed Real Madrid 5-0 on aggregate that year. This season the Spanish giants have heavily relied upon their defence. In the attacking department, things haven’t been above average only.
While for Liverpool, they clearly have defensive woes and for some time they did struggle in the attack as well. However, with the recent 0-3 win over Arsenal, Klopp’s men seem to have found their mojo back.
When and Where ?
Real Madrid will host Liverpool at Santiago Bernabeu in the Premier League fixture on 7th April 2021 at 12:30 AM (IST).
Team News and Injury Update

Head to Head stats: Madrid vs Liverpool
Real Madrid vs Liverpool: The two teams have faced each other six times in the Champions League. Real Madrid has won three times and Liverpool has won the other three times.
This season, Karim Benzema has been leading the line very well for Real Madrid. With Sergio Ramos absent he will be the key player for Zinedine Zidane.
The Reds are also without their defensive linchpin Van Dijk. Thus Mo Salah will be the player on whom they will be more focused. The former Chelsea winger is the club’s top scorer this season and Klopp would hope he scores some against Real Madrid.
The 12th Man Prediction Real Madrid 2 vs 1 Liverpool
In the absence of Sergio Ramos, Real Madrid’s defence is weak. However, they still have players like Varane to call upon. This season Liverpool’s defence has been in shambles, that’s why Los Blancos are in a better position to win.
