The La Liga giants have been after the Premier League star for quite some time and it looks like they will finally make their first move.
The Los Blancos have struggled this season and many put the blame not only on their superstars up-front but also on their back-line and goalkeeper. Zinedine Zidane’s side has gone on to concede the most goals among the top four La Liga sides and this has been the biggest reason why they have finished a distant third and 15 points behind La Liga Champions Barcelona. This has lead to both managers Zinedine Zidane and president Florentino Perez deciding to revamp their team during the summer window, targetting Manchester United, Tottenham, Chelsea, PSG, and Barcelona stars.
While the Costa-Rican has been Real Madrid’s number one ever since Iker Casillas left the club, Perez wants to replace him. Manchester United’s David De Gea is their main target, but with the Red Devils unwilling to sell, the Los Blancos have turned towards Thibaut Courtois. The Belgium international has been Chelsea’s main man between the sticks even replacing veteran and Chelsea legend Petr Cech.
However, with his contract expiring in 2019, the Blues are yet to agree to an extension and both Real Madrid and even Ligue 1 giants PSG are very interested. Thibaut Courtois has been one of the standout performers for the Blues, despite a lackluster title defense with the Blues struggling to keep with the rampant Manchester City. However, while any talks between Real Madrid and Chelsea have been rumors, but according to reports, the Los Blancos are about to make their first bid for the Belgian international.
President Florentino Perez is very keen on signing the 26-year-old but more than that, the Los Blancos want to replace the Keylor Navas with a big name. Courtois has been in fine form for Chelsea, despite a struggling season for the Blues but ended up losing out the Golden Glove to David De Gea.
Losing Thibaut Courtois will certainly be a massive loss to Chelsea and thus they somehow need to tie the Belgian down to a long-term deal, but that only means that clubs get him for free. Despite, the possibility of a potential move away, the 26-year old’s family resides in Madrid and that could prove to make a big difference if a move is to take place.
