The Blues have reportedly halted any talks of a transfer for Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid as Chelsea are on the lookout for a replacement.
After finishing fifth in last season’s Premier League campaign, Chelsea will now be ineligible to play in the Champions League in the upcoming term. And after sacking Italian boss Antonio Conte, Chelsea have a difficult last two weeks in the summer transfer window trying to keep hold of their star players. One superstar who is linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge is Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois as Real Madrid keep knocking on Chelsea’s door. However, talks for the shot-stopper are currently on hold as Chelsea seeks a replacement for Courtois.
According to Sky Sports News, Chelsea is not willing to sell Courtois until they find a suitable replacement for the keeper. The report also claims that Chelsea is looking to sign Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford when he returns to the club this summer. The England international did well for his country at the FIFA World Cup in Russia and those impressive performances have caught the eye of Chelsea.
But if no deal takes place in the next few weeks, Chelsea will not be selling Courtois and the Belgian will start the season in between the sticks for the Londoners. Courtois has just one year left on his Chelsea contract but he is stalling a contract extension as he wants to reunite with his family back in the Spanish capital.
New boss Maurizio Sarri is set to hold talks with Courtois regarding his future as he is valued at £32 million, but if the star goalkeeper does not decide to stay at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will have to let him leave for free next summer.
I think that Chelsea should let go of Courtois this summer mainly because it’s inevitable that he will leave next summer for free. £32 million is a great fee for a keeper who has just one year on his deal and Chelsea could use those funds for other arrivals at the club.
