Real Madrid striker tests positive for COVID-19

The Italian tactician of Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti will miss the star striker Karim Benzema in his first pre-season clash on Sunday. The French ace tested positive for coronavirus and will miss the fixture against the Scottish Premiership champions Rangers FC.

“Real Madrid C. F. confirm that our player Karim Benzema has tested positive for COVID-19”, the club announced on their official website. The player will be on self-isolation and expected to join back before the start of the season in Spain.

The 33-year-old striker was on holiday in France when he was found to have the virus. This will delay his return to the training session in Madrid. Los Blancos will start their La Liga campaign on August 14 with a match against Deportivo Alaves. (Sources)

Meanwhile, they will have two preparatory games prior to the domestic action. Carlo Ancelotti will take on the Serie A giants AC Milan in the second pre-season fixture on 8th August. The attacking line of Real Madrid will see more changes from the last season according to the game plan of the former Everton manager.

Karim Benzema for Real Madrid

The France international had an amazing campaign last season with Madrid. He was the one-man army in the front for Zinedine Zidane after the celebrated signing of Eden Hazard missed out on injuries. Benzema was the face of the attacking line of Madrid since the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Also, the Euro 2020 campaign marked the return of the player to the national side after years of wilderness. He impressed the fans by joining the party upfront with Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann.

Carlo Ancelotti is back in action for his second spell with the La Liga giants. The manager knows the conditions in Madrid very well. But, the reliable options he had in the Champions League squad of 2013/14 are missing now.

Karim Benzema was a major presence in the team when Madrid were crowned as the Champions of Europe in Lisbon in 2014. The match-winner of Lisbon Sergio Ramos is the major missing for Ancelotti in his second spell.

The Spanish attacking midfielder Isco is one of the names that possibly take an exit from Santiago Bernabeu in search of more playing minutes. Madrid are facing major issues with the backline. The Raphael Varane talks to Manchester United are yet to solve.

And, Ancelotti should find more defensive options for next season. The signing of David Alaba is the only major transfer activity of Real Madrid this summer. The countdown for the season started and they need to speed up the process in the summer window.
