While Julen Lopetegui took over a brilliant squad from former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane, the Spaniard has decided to reinforce his side with a World Class striker.
Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo have a decent relationship both on and off the field, especially when the Frenchman struggled to find his footing in front of goal. However, now that Real Madrid has let Ronaldo go to Juventus, the 29-year-old needs a strike partner or better yet, someone to replace him in the eyes of Julen Lopetegui.
That’s exactly why the former Spain boss has decided to shop the transfer window for a brand new World class striker. Losing someone like Cristiano Ronaldo is a massive blow to any team but for Real Madrid in their current state, it leaves them without that pivot who can produce a 30 goal season consistently. And given that the Los Blancos have been spoiled for choice over the last decade or so under Ronaldo, now a time for change has come.
According to reports from Marca, Lopetegui’s number one target is a world class striker and someone who can score goals consistently. After all the clichéd saying goes, goals win football matches. And while 51 year old is perfectly happy with Benzema and Gareth Bale’s pre-season performances, he feels another star could pump up the team even more.
The Los Blancos have been linked with a whole host of forwards over the last few years, including the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Mauro Icardi, Harry Kane and many others. But it seems that Tottenham star Harry Kane and Inter Milan star Mauro Icardi is at the top of the shortlist with PSG’s Edison Cavani a close third.
While Kane finished second to only Mohamed Salah in the race for the Golden Boot with 30 goals last season, the English international also had a brilliant World Cup winning the Golden Boot with 6 goals. Meanwhile, Icardi on the other lost out on the Caponniere to Ciro Immobile with 29 goals in the Serie A last season.
Signing a new striker is something that Real Madrid needs to do but they also need to make sure that the star is able to adjust to the La Liga. IT has happened before and it certainly will happen again, Julen Lopetegui just needs to make sure he signs the right player with the right mindset and someone who also has the ability to thrive and not just survive at the Bernabeu.
