Liverpool have reportedly entered the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Isco this winter.
Isco has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu amid a mixed first half to the campaign. The Spaniard has struggled to nail down a regular spot in Zinedine Zidane’s starting XI this season. The 27-year-old has managed just 10 starts in all competitions since the start of the season. His only goal this season came against Valencia in the Supercopa de Espana. The midfielder is currently surplus to requirements and Los Blancos could cash in on him if the value is right.
Chelsea are among the forerunners to sign the Spaniard in the ongoing January transfer window. The Premier League giants have been desperate to add a creative midfielder to their ranks ever since the departure of Eden Hazard last summer. The Blues reportedly met with the midfielder’s agent to discuss a possible £47 m move to west London. El Desmarque reported recently that Chelsea was ‘doing everything’ to try and sign the 27-year-old before the end of January.
Isco reportedly ruled out a move to Stamford Bridge to play under fellow Spaniard Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. David Silva has confirmed that he will leave Manchester City after spending 10 years with the Premier League Champions. Isco could well be the perfect candidate to replace the World Cup winner if City decides to recruit a replacement. The 27-year-old’s current deal runs till 2022 leaving Madrid under no pressure to sell him in the ongoing transfer window.
Liverpool have now joined the race to sign Isco with Reds’ manager Jurgen Klopp reportedly keen on the move. Liverpool are closing in on their first league title in 30 years with a 16-point lead over second-placed City. Klopp views Isco as a player who can bring something different to his setup and wants the deal finalized immediately according to El Desmarque. Liverpool hasn’t had a creative midfielder since Philippe Coutinho and the Spaniard could be a valuable addition to their squad.
Real Madrid have responded to Liverpool and Chelsea’s interest by raising their asking price for the midfielder.
Real Madrid have responded to Liverpool’s interest by raising their asking price for the Spanish international. El Desmarque reported that the La Liga giants acted on recent interest by upping the price tag on the player. The Real Madrid President reportedly rejected Chelsea’s previous £47 m bid and wants nothing less than £59 m. The 27-year-old has made 294 appearances for Real Madrid since joining for £27 m from Malaga back in 2013, scoring 49 goals and laying on 52 assists.
Isco has won a league title and four Champions League titles among other honors during his time at the club. The Real Madrid playmaker still possesses the ability to unlock deep-lying defences with his vision and technical skill. Isco appeared as a substitute during Real Madrid’s Copa Del Rey clash against Unionistas on Wednesday. It will be interesting to see if Zidane decided to give him game time on Sunday when Los Blancos take on Real Valladolid.
