Real Madrid have made a decision about where their star midfielder will play next season, amid serious transfer interest from the Premier League.

The Real Madrid star has been a mainstay in the Los Blancos team ever since his arrival and has even been called one of the best-attacking midfielders in the world. However, with Real Madrid struggling for points and defensively this season, the club has decided to revamp their squad bringing in a brand new set of Galacticos next summer.Real Madrid

This also includes a replacement for Croatian star Luka Modric, with the 32-year-old looking to leave the Santiago Bernabeu after a disappointing season in the La Liga. The Los Blancos sit fourth in the league table, a massive 18 points behind Barcelona with less than seven games to go. This has lead to rumors about the former Tottenham star being unhappy with manager Zinedine Zidane’s tactics and even the effort put in by other players during the league matches.

And with Arsenal, Liverpool and even Manchester United very interested in bringing the former Premier League star back to England, Real Madrid have reportedly made a decision about Modric’s future. According to reports from Diario Gol, the club wants Liverpool star Emre Can, with the Liverpool star’s contract set to expire at the end of the current season. As a result, any deal for Luka Modric would be linked to if and only if the German international signs a deal with Real Madrid at the end of his current contract.

So far, the 24-year-old has rejected any potential extension from the Reds, with the idea of moving to a bigger European club. Meanwhile, Liverpool are still looking for a Philippe Coutinho replacement and thus have been linked with the likes of Isco, Marco Asensio, Dani Ceballos, Nabil Fekir and many more, but see Modric as an experienced choice.

While front-runners Arsenal need a replacement for Jack Wilshere, who like Emre Can sees his contract expire soon. The English man is yet to accept a new deal from the Gunners and wants a significant pay increase, which the Emirates Stadium side aren’t willing to offer.

Author’s take:

Luka Modric arrived in the La Liga after struggling to make an impact for Tottenham Hotspur, despite showing signs of brilliance during his time there. But since then, the Croatian has been splendid for Real Madrid, flourishing as a central-midfielder, becoming one of the best in the world by some margin.

Oh o.k., Real Madrid are third place in La Liga. Barcelona have 82 pts. to Real’s 67. But that makes no difference right? At the start of the season, Messi was a pivotal leader in his team’s success as he always is. Ronaldo is also a great leader but he is more self-focused on scoring goals for himself. I believe that Messi is more instrumental in setting up goals. And he can score them too when he needs to! Messi stomps Ronaldo in dribbling skills 10 to 1. Messi is more valuable if he is arguably less selfish. Ronaldo is certainly a leader and winner too–one of the best to ever lace on the cleats. We must assess goals per game and assists for each ultimately at the end.
