Royal Challengers Bangalore were riding high on confidence in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. They are the only team in this season’s IPL to win the first four games in a row.
After that, they locked horns with Chennai Super Kings in their fifth game at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat first.
Chennai Super Kings posted a challenging total of 191/4 in their quota of 20 overs. Faf du Plessis scored a brilliant half-century with the help of 41 balls. The former Proteas captain smacked 5 fours and a six.
Ruturaj Gaikwad also looked good for his 33 off 25 balls including 4 fours and a six. He ensured to provide a positive start alongside Faf du Plessis as the duo added a 74-run stand for the first wicket.
However, in the end, Ravindra Jadeja piled up 37 in an over and also Chris Gayle’s record with ease. Jadeja showed no mercy to RCB’s best bowler as he went on to score an unbeaten 62 off 28 balls. The southpaw chipped in with a flurry of 4 boundaries and 5 sixes at a brilliant strike rate of 221.43.
In reply, RCB managed to score 122/9 in 20 overs. Devdutt Padikkal top-scored with 34 off 15 balls including 4 fours and 2 sixes. Ravindra Jadeja showcased his bowling masterclass as he took 3 wickets to his name. CSK won the game by 69 runs.
