Punjab Kings kick-started their campaign on a positive note by beating Rajasthan Royals in their first game. KL Rahul’s team sealed a nail-biter. Rajasthan Royals won the toss and invited Punjab Kings to bat first at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Punjab Kings who finished 6th in the last year’s points table ensured to provide a solid start to the game. They easily stamped their authority with collective efforts. KL Rahul, Deepak Hooda and Chris Gayle chipped in with valuable contributions as they helped the team post 221/6 in 20 overs.
Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul was the pick of the batsmen as he scored 91 off just 50 balls. In his innings, he slammed 7 fours and 5 sixes at a marvellous strike rate of 182. He drew plaudits for his superb knock.
On the other hand, Chris Gayle scored 40 off 28 balls at a strike rate of 142.86. Gayle slammed 4 fours and 2 sixes. Deepak Hooda stunned everyone by scoring 64 off just 28 balls.
The right-handed batsman smacked 4 fours and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 228.57. Chetan Sakariya who made his IPL debut with Rajasthan Royals picked up 3 wickets to his name.
IPL’s most expensive signing Chris Morris accounted for two dismissals. Riyan Parag bowled just 1 over and made the headlines for his wide-arm bowling action. The 19-year-old Guwahati-born cricketer picked up the prized wicket of Chris Gayle.
Yuzvendra Chahal trolls Punjab Kings on Twitter
It is cognizance of the fact that Kings XI Punjab changed their name to “Punjab Kings” ahead of the brand new IPL 2021 season. Likewise, they also made some changes to their jersey. Their outfit also looked a bit similar to the old kit of Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Netizens also took to their respective social media handles to add that Punjab’s jersey looks like RCB’s old kit. Talking about the same, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s experienced leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal decided to troll the Punjab Kings franchise on Twitter.
The experienced spinner sent a hilarious tweet to Chris Gayle and KL Rahul. Chahal took a friendly dig at Punjab Kings by tagging the former RCB players in his tweet. “Welcome to @RCBTweets boys @henrygayle @klrahul11,” Chahal wrote.
Chahal’s tweet went viral in no time and the tweet received more than 27k likes. Meanwhile, Chris Gayle is yet to give a reply to the wrist spinner. It is well-known that Gayle and Chahal made so many funny and fond memories in the past at RCB franchise.
Punjab take on CSK in the next game
Punjab Kings beat Rajasthan Royals by 4 runs to open their account with a win. Sanju Samson was named the man of the match as he scored a brilliant 119 off 63 balls in the run-chase. He smashed 12 fours and 7 sixes to his name at a strike rate of 188.89.
On the other hand, Punjab Kings will lock horns with Chennai Super Kings in the next game. The game will kick off at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 16, Friday. Earlier, CSK lost to Delhi Capitals in their first game at the same venue.
