Expressing his concern to all the hustle and confusion that has taken place surrounding the appointment of Indian team head coach and support staff, former Committee of Administrators (COA) member Ramachandra Guha criticized the treatment that has been given to former Indian bowler Zaheer Khan, former skipper Rahul Dravid and former coach Anil Kumble. The noted historian, in a series of tweets, said that Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, and Zaheer Khan were “true greats” of the game and “did not deserve this public humiliation”.
Tweets are as follows:
Kumble, Dravid and Zaheer were true greats of the game who gave it all on the field. They did not deserve this public humiliation.

Committee of Administrators chief Vinod Rai had said that Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan have not been appointed yet and were only recommended by the Cricket Advisory Committee.
What’s the story?
Guha’s statement came after BCCI has made a u-turn on the appointments of Zaheer Khan as the bowling consultant and Rahul Dravid as overseas Test batting consultant; the appointments were announced on July 11.
Two days later reports suggest that Shastri wants to rope in Bharat Arun as bowling side coach in the Indian team.
Soon, BCCI reacted and clarified that the appointments of Dravid and Zaheer as batting and bowling consultants were made after consultation with head coach Ravi Shastri. However, this time the BCCI said the appointments were made on “overseas tour-to-tour basis”.
“The recommendation for Mr. Ravi Shastri was made on the merit of his presentation and the vision that he projected for taking the team to greater heights. After taking the decision on his selection, the CAC consulted him and decided on having Batting and Bowling consultants on the overseas tour-to-tour basis, as per the requirement of the team”.
Shastri will be meeting the four-member committee of the Supreme Court appointed CoA next week for the selection of the support staff for Team India.
“We have set up a committee of Diana Edulji, Acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary, acting president of the board CK Khanna and CEO Rahul Johri as a convener, who will speak to them and Ravi Shastri and make the selection of the other coaches,” said COA chief Vinod Rai.
Kumble stepped down from the post of head coach of Indian team after this year’s Champions Trophy following reportedly having a rift with Kohli.
Guha has resigned from the COA, lambasting the superstar culture in Indian Cricket while also hitting out at formal players on conflict of interest issues.
This is not the first time that Guha has taken such stand. He had earlier also questioned former India captain Sunil Gavaskar’s role as commentator and his player management company managing Shikhar Dhawan and has also taken a dig at India captain Virat Kohli in his role in the Anil Kumble issue.
Presently, there is a state of disturbance and confusion in the BCCI. There must be more transparency in the working of BCCI. In a nation where cricket is treated as a religion, it’s better to take strict measures so that India will remain a dignified and respected team and the talented players get their due place.
