When the Arab money was pumped into Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, both the owners had one ambition. Both of them wanted to win the Champions League. However, so far they are yet to achieve that goal. Last season the Parisians did come close but they lost in the final to Bayern Munich.
This time again both of them have a chance to win the trophy. The two are set to take on each other in the semi-finals of the Champions League. The last time these two faced each other the Citizens came out on top with an aggregate 0-1 win. However, PSG will try to reach the finals for consecutive seasons. Only nine teams in history have been able to do that.
While for Citizens this is the time to create some history. It will only be their fourth semi-final appearance in European competition. It also promises to be an exciting game given the history between Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino. The last time these two met in the Champions League there was plenty of drama and fireworks.
Analysis: Paris Saint-Germain vs Manchester City
PSG being the home side would prefer to let Manchester City dominate the possession. Even against Bayern Munich, they were happy to do so. With Pep Guardiola’s side dominating possession the Parisians will try to get in behind their defenders. Their pacey forwards will be the key to unlock the visitor’s defence.
On the other hand, Manchester City are likely to employ their false 9 tactics. One forward will drop in the midfield to bring a defender out of position. This will in turn create space for a wide player to run into. Not only this PSG should also be wary of Citizens lighting quick counter-attacks.
If the home side loses the ball in the midfield, Manchester City players will be very quick to capitalize on it. PSG’s experience could also help them in the game. Even if they are not playing well, they will still believe that they can get something out of this game. While for the Citizens this is the first time they have reached the semi-finals under Guardiola.

Head to Head Stats: Paris Saint-Germain vs Manchester City
The two teams have faced each other three times in competitive games. The Citizens managed one win and the rest of the two games ended in draws.
Neymar: PSG will hit the visiting side on counter-attacks. Neymar is likely to drop deep and he will collect the ball. It will be his job to find Mbappe in space. Then he will also have to help his team in the final third or in finishing the move.
Ilkay Gündoğan: The Citizens could struggle to create a lot of chances. Even in their recent game against Spurs, they struggled to create chances. Chances will be at a premium and Gündoğan’s runs inside the box could mean that he will have chances to score. The German has scored 16 goals this season in all competitions.
The 12th Man Prediction: Paris Saint Germain 2 vs Manchester City 1
PSG’s have the player who can fully exploit Manchester City’s high line. It is likely that this how they will get their goals. Not only this they have experienced players in Neymar and Di Maria as well. While the Citizens could struggle to score goals but considering their quality they should be able to find one in the back of the net.
