PSG star has no future at the Nou Camp claims Barcelona’s Lionel Messi

Barcelona’s talisman Lionel Messi believes PSG midfielder Marco Verratti has no future with the club and is not a suitable replacement for Andres Iniesta.

The Catalans are reportedly on a hunt to replace midfield maestro Andres Iniesta who will leave the club at the end of the season. With one game left to go in the La Liga, Barcelona is already looking forward to this summer’s transfer window with their sights set on Italian midfielder Marco Verratti. The PSG midfielder has been under Barça’s radar for a long time now and according to Spanish reports, Barça is interested in Verratti occupying the vacant spot in the midfield.

According to Don Balon, however, Leo Messi has spoken to club officials expressing his concerns regarding signing the Italian. The Argentine further claims that Verratti has no place in the future of the club. This opens doors for Italian giants Juventus to acquire the 25-year-old’s signature. Having sold Paul Pogba a few seasons ago, the Old Lady has been looking for a suitable replacement for the Frenchman ever since.

Barcelona on the other hand have potential replacements in their squad already. Brazilian Paulinho has played a significant role this season, playing in 49 games for the Blaugrana. Moreover, his Brazilian compatriot Phillipe Coutinho is also finding his form at the Nou Camp. The former Liverpool midfielder stood out in the 5-4 shock defeat to Levante, scoring a hat-trick in the process.

Barcelona will play Real Sociedad in their final game of the season. Having failed to maintain the unbeaten streak, this season will be shadowed by underachievement for the Catalans. Although having won the La Liga and Copa Del Rey title, by Barcelona’s standards, this season will be considered mediocre and dissapointing to most Barça fans.

Author’s take:

Barcelona will be eager to forget about their failure to achieve the invincibles season for the first time in La Liga’s history. To make matters worse, to find a fitting replacement for Andres Iniesta will not be an easy task. Having said this, it is uncertain whether Verratti will be able to perform and play to Barça’s strengths if he does join the Catalans. We’ll see what Messi has to say about that.
