The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the squad for the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand. Shockingly, two key players failed to make the cut in the squad.
They are none other than Prithvi Shaw and Hardik Pandya. Prithvi Shaw was dropped from the setup after a clueless performance against Australia. The youngster scored only 1 and 0 in the first Test.
After that, he was replaced by Shubman Gill in the playing XI. The youngster grabbed the opportunity in both hands and delivered the goods when it mattered the most.
The Kolkata Knight Riders’ player scored a crucial 91 in the series decider at The Gabba. His spectacular knock in the run-chase of 328 helped India defeat Australia at their fortress.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill justified his selection right so far. Rightly so, he earned the place in the Indian team for the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand.
On the other hand, Prithvi Shaw worked well on his batting. His improvement was there for everyone to see in the Indian Premier League. He scored 308 runs in 8 games including 3 fifties.
Prithvi Shaw asked to lose weight
Prithvi Shaw scored the second-fastest fifty of the IPL 2021 tournament as he accomplished the feat in 18 balls against KKR. Moreover, he smashed 6 fours in an over off Shivam Mavi’s bowling. Despite his improvement, the selectors still didn’t pick him.
According to a report in the Times of India, Prithvi Shaw has been asked to lose a few more kilos to make a comeback to the Indian team. The 21-year-old may have improved his batting but he needs to lose weight in order to don the Indian jersey.
“Prithvi is still very slow across the turf for a 21-year-old. He needs to shed a few more kilos. He also had concentration issues while fielding in Australia. Shaw has been working hard since he returned from Australia.
He has the example of Rishabh Pant right in front of him. If Pant can turn things around in a few months, Prithvi too can do it,” added BCCI Source. Team India will lock horns with New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship final in Southampton on June 18.
