Red Devils willing to pay buyout clause of Serie A star
Manchester United are preparing a bid for Kostas Manolas, whose buyout clause has caught their interest. The Roma star can be snapped by for £32 million, a small change in today’s bloated transfer world, and will surely help bolster the Red Devils’ defence while also giving competition to Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly. The Italian giants will obviously try to avoid losing players in January, and United will only be able to activate the release clause come summer.
Roma, though, are not sitting around waiting for tragedy to strike, having already started lining up replacements, with Gazzetta Dello Sport saying Sampdoria’s Joachim Andersen could come in for the Greek centre-back if he moves to Old Trafford in the summer. “It’s only natural you want to play for the biggest clubs,” Manolas told Sport last summer. “Like Barcelona, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich. I think I could make the difference anywhere I went, even at Barcelona – although I have never spoken to them.”
