City to make a shock move for Fernandinho’s cover?
It has been known for a while that the only major gap in Manchester City’s squad is having a quality back-up to the vital but ageing Fernandinho, and it seems manager Pep Guardiola might have found a surprise solution to this problem, as per reports. The Sun on Sunday reported that City have been ‘making checks ahead of a shock deal’ for Schalke’s defensive midfielder Sebastian Rudy.
Guardiola knows Rudy from his time as Bayern Munich manager and apparently sees the German international as a short-term solution as Fernandinho’s backup. The 28-year-old’s superb form at Hoffenheim saw him move on a free to Bayern, but he only lasted a season before moving to Schalke in the summer of 2018. And despite struggling for form in a flat Schalke side, he could be snapped up as a short-term loan if there is a fee involved.
