Harry Kane wanted to be the main man at Real Madrid and wasn’t sure about Ronaldo’s departure this summer.
Don Balon have revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the main reasons behind Harry Kane snubbing Real Madrid and signing a new long-term deal with Tottenham. The forward signed a deal which will see him sport the Spurs colors until 2024. The Spanish news agency has stated that the Englishman believed that the Portuguese sensation stood in his way of leading the line at the Bernabeu and the speculation of Cristiano leaving Los Blancos wasn’t enough to change his intentions.
He was unsure about who would be ready to stump up the 33-year-old’s wage demands calling it a ‘gamble’. Kane has really started to show his ability, crossing the 30 goal threshold in three successive seasons for The Lillywhites. He managed to snap up the Golden Boot twice before finishing second to the Liverpool new boy, Mo Salah.
The man is a creative goalscorer who always keeps the opposition defence engaged by constantly running the channels. He also specializes in playmaking and involving his fellow attackers which has worked well for Mauricio Pochettino and his Spurs side.
With Cristiano Ronaldo edging closer to the 35 and Benzema past his peak Harry Kane would have been a very impressive coup for the European champions. A refreshed attack, with Bale also wanting a move away, would have been a good way to start life under a new manager.
Real Madrid will be ruing this missed opportunity to sign one of the most complete forwards on the planet currently. Tottenham, on the other hand, will be licking their lips at the prospect of keeping their talisman as they move into their new 62,000 seater.
