Premier League news: Former Manchester United player and legend Rio Ferdinand feels that Liverpool should re-sign Raheem Sterling. The England international is rarely getting the chances he deserves at Manchester City.
The 26-year-old has not been regular in the squad since last season. Raheem Sterling was dropped for Phil Foden in the starting lineup during the last season. As a result of that, he played only 31 Premier League games. However, the majority of those 31 appearances were from the bench.
Raheem Sterling has also lost his left-wing position to the new summer signing Jack Grealish. He was brought from Aston Villa for £100 million during the summer transfer window. However, Sterling was in the starting eleven in the previous game against Southampton.
He was made to play upfront which was again out of his preferred position. The 26-year-old winger has been impressive for his national team recently. He was also a key part of the England team that made it to the finals in the Euro 2020 tournament.
But the winger has not been doing very well at Manchester City. His form has massively dropped and the possible reason could be him not getting regular opportunities.
Premier League transfer news: Rio Ferdinand says that Liverpool should bring back Raheem Sterling
Rio Ferdinand recently talked about the whole situation revolving around Raheem Sterling on his podcast Vibe with Five. Ferdinand said, “Where is Raheem Sterling? He’s lost confidence because he’s been taken out of the team. He was the go-to guy when they needed a goal, for so many years, and now all of a sudden he’s in the wilderness. I’m baffled by it, I just don’t understand.”
The Manchester United legend further said, “If I’m Liverpool, I’d buy Sterling tomorrow … If I’m him, I wouldn’t go to Barcelona or Real Madrid right now, that’s why I said Liverpool … Man United will take him!”
Barcelona keen to bring Raheem Sterling
According to a report from Express, Barcelona could move for Raheem Sterling in the January transfer window. The Spanish giants are keen to bring him. However, the club also made certain moves to sign Raheem Sterling in the summer transfer window.
Barcelona were very keen on him in the summer. Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany even went to England to convince Raheem Sterling. However, any deal could not be materialized in time and Sterling stayed at Manchester City.
But that scenario could change in the coming months with Barcelona looking for attacking options. Sterling is a primary target for them and the Catalan giants are willing to splash the cash on him.
The 26-year-old will also be looking to leave Manchester City due to the lack of game time. Raheem Sterling has fallen down the pecking order below Phil Foden and Jack Grealish and the probability is high that things will remain the same.
Manchester City will be travelling to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Saturday. While Barcelona will also be travelling to face Cadiz on Friday at Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla. Both the teams will look to grab the three points to further their position in the table.
